If you often find yourself struggling to make even a simple decision, you may use a ridiculously simple trick: flip a coin. The rule is that you have to trust it.
For instance, imagine that you are torn between accepting an invitation to go out or staying in to tackle an unfinished task. The dilemma spins in your head, casting shadows over your day, and regret seems inevitable no matter which path you choose. Or does it? Flip a coin and rely on the result. Don’t repeat the throw, trust the outcome of that single toss and get the decision out of your head, without any suggestions, let fate decide.
Going back to the previous example - the dilemma between going out or staying home and finishing something. The task is not urgent, the event is not something you have been waiting for a long time. And that’s one of the reasons why you can’t decide. Both options seem equal, there’s no one prevailing reason.
That’s why a coin toss is such a good solution in this situation. You probably won’t go wrong once you already make a decision, no matter which one it will be. This simple trick allows you to take away responsibility of choosing and fear of regret.
